Before calling a funeral director to help though, a medical certificate needs to be obtained from a medical professional.

The certificate will confirm the deceased’s name, personal details and cause of death and in most cases, it will be issued as soon as possible after their passing – but it can take a little longer in some circumstances.

They cost around £1,500, and you could arrange a small, intimate ceremony at home with your family – or you could plan the funeral yourself.
